Salmon & Trout Fishing
Amid the rushing & bubbling waters of the upper Caragh river system, into Bridia valley, Loch Cloon, Rea & Acoose not forgetting the waters of loch Caragh. The heavens open & rain falling on the sodden turf gives an increase in the smallest streams raising flood waters that make this system probably one of the best spate rivers in Ireland. with the flood on the next high tide a rush of Salmon returning from the North Atlantic up past Caragh bridge not stopping still eager to bite at almost anything that's presented, Through loch Caragh into the Upper Caragh river resting a while as the floodwaters recede waiting for the next flood then onward up to the lochs past Beelelaw bridge to Cloon & loch Rea along the Owenroe to Acoose. From the banks by boat, spinning or fly Fishing, Watch the banks all that water makes for some very tricky marks.
some say the trout on the Upper Caragh are small, yes some are small there are no record breakers here, but wild brown trout to 3.5Lb were caught & released on the reaches of the Upper Caragh in 2000 Use light tackle & the pleasure that you can have catching & releasing is immense.
Fishing Salmon
Your Silver Streak does not deceive,
My unblinking concentration.
I caught the flash reflected by,
The scales of your deception.
Our instincts challenged to a dual,
To the death we fight each other.
The only common bond we share,
To us both the earth is mother.
Though long and tough the battle be,
You've earned your chance of freedom.
To see your skills and brilliant spills,
Dark river silver demon.
